Washington, 14/03/2007 (SPS) The President of the republic,
Mohamed Abdelaziz, who is undertaking a work visit to New York and
Washington, said on Tuesday that he is "confident" in the progress
of the Saharawi dossier, reported the Algerian Press Agency, APS.
"My visit to the seat of the UN, my different meetings with high
officials of the international organisation and my contacts in
Washington, with many political personalities, parliamentarians and
the representative of the US civil society makes me confident in the
perception they have about the Saharawi dossier, which must, in
their opinion, find solution in the implementation of the UN’s
resolutions", President Abdelaziz stressed to APS.
The Saharawi President met, during his sojourn in New York, with the
UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, the President of the UN Security
Council, Ambassador of South Africa, Dumisani Kumalo, and the
ambassadors of the Security Council’s member States and Non-Aligned
countries in the Council.
"I transmitted to my interlocutors the message of the Saharawi
people and the Polisario Front about the hopes to see the
decolonisation in Africa finished with the implementation of the
engagements adopted in 1975 by the International Court of Justice of
The Hague and the international community starting from 1991, to
organise a self-determination referendum so far hindered by
Morocco", the President of the Republic added.
Mr. Abdelaziz noted that the "signs of encouragement and hopes" in
many statements of support to the process of self-determination
expressed by many capitals, international and regional
organisations, "denouncing the manoeuvres of the occupying force,
which seeks to impose the so-called autonomy plan for the Western
Sahara".
"The only legal framework is the international legality through the
organisation of a free and democratic self-determination referendum
in Western Sahara", the Saharawi President reaffirmed.
