14/03/2007 (SPS) The South African Parliamentarian in Charge of
Foreign Affairs within the Democratic Alliance, Douglas Gibson,
affirmed that "his party supports steadily the efforts aiming to
provide for the self-determination of the Saharawi people", reported
a source from the Saharawi Embassy in Pretoria.
In a letter he addressed to the Saharawi Ambassador in South Africa,
Ubbi Bouchraya, Mr. Douglas Gibson also declared that his party
denounces the delays and hesitation of the international community
in the finishing of the decolonisation of the Western Sahara".
The South African official also underlined that "it is time to
organise the referendum with or without the approval of Morocco and
let the desire of the Saharawi people to get the independence if
such is the result of the referendum".
The Democratic Alliance is the biggest party of opposition in South
Africa with 47 seats in Parliament, it should be recalled. (SPS)
