Paris, 13/03/2007 (SPS) The Committee for the respect of the
human rights in the Western Sahara (CORELSO) underlined to the
President of the European Union’s Council, Mr. Frank-Walter
Steinmeier, that "Morocco is the only accountable for the impasse"
in the settlement of the Saharawi question, indicated this
Franco-Saharawi NGO.
In a letter addressed to the President of the EU Council, the
CORELSO underlined that "if, as you stressed, this conflict is
accusing an impasse, it is then only because of Morocco which is
redoubling, since the cease-fire in 1991, the obstacles and delaying
manœuvre to impede the implementation of the UN’s Settlement Plan
with a self-determination referendum conforming to the resolution
1495 of July 2003 (Baker Plan), while this plan was accepted by the
Polisario Front".
"Now, Morocco wants to cross another stage in the legitimisation of
its policy of annexation and occupation of Western Sahara with its
plan of autonomy Rabat wants to unilaterally impose", the CORELSO
added.
The Franco-Saharawi NGO estimated that "the European Union must play
a constructive role in the settlement of this conflict. Knowing that
this role can only be through the defence of the international
legality and the respect of the Saharawi people’s right to
elf-determination". (SPS)
