Madrid, 10/03/2007 (SPS) The President o the Spanish
Communist Party (PCE), Felipe Alacaraz, affirmed on Friday that the
position of the Spanish Socialist government on the conflict of the
Western Sahara "opposes the interests of the Spanish State",
accusing it of having "broken the consensus" that existed in Spain
on this question.
The President of the Spanish government, José Luis Rodriguez
Zapatero, "has broken the consensus on the Western Sahara" during
the Hispano-Moroccan meeting in Rabat and "ceded to the permanent
blackmail of Morocco", regarding "immigration, fishing and
terrorism", Mr. Alcaraz declared.
"The government adopted a decision that opposes the interests of the
Spanish State and those of the Saharawi people", he declared,
recalling "the massive weapon sale" by Spain to Morocco, which was
denounced by the international human rights organisation Amnesty
International.
On its part, the Galician Nationalist Bloc (BNG) asked for the
appearance of the Spanish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Miguel Angel
Moratinos, before Parliament to explain the "change in the Spanish
foreign policy'' on the Saharawi question.,
The BNG member of the Spanish Congress (law chamber of the Spanish
National Parliament), Maria Olaia Fernandez, affirmed that the
Moroccan so-called « autonomy plan » for the Western Sahara, which
is "categorically rejected" by the Polisario Front, "violates the
United Nations resolutions relative to the Saharawi people’s right
to self-determination" and "tries to impose a shameful colonial
solution".
The President of the Federation of the Association of Solidarity
with the Saharawi people in the region of Andalucia, Francisco
Guerrero, declared on its side that the position of the Spanish
government "contradicts the international legality". (SPS)
