Madrid, 10/03/2007 (SPS) The Coordination of the Spanish
Associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CEAS-Sahara)
launched on Friday an "urgent appeal" to the Spanish Socialist
government in Spain to "rectify its position on the Western Sahara
conflict and "support without any ambiguity" the United Nations’
resolutions on the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and
independence".
"The President of the Government (José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero) must
know that after 15 years of war (between Morocco and Polisario
Front) and after many negotiations between the parties, the only
basis for dialogue are the resolutions of the UN Security Council
and General Assembly", underlined a press release publicised y the
Coordination that gathers hundreds associations in Spain.
Recalling that "more than 50 resolutions" were already approved on
the Western Sahara, the Coordination affirmed that what is lacking
is "only to implement them" and that the "only obstacle" in front of
their implementation is Morocco, which has no right to sovereignty
on the territory according to the UN and to the International Court
of Justice in The Hague.
The Coordination also launched an appeal to the political and social
forces an to the Spanish society to demand from the Spanish
government to review its position and to "firmly oppose the attempts
to dispossess the Saharawi people of their legitimate right to
freely decide over their fate through a self-determination
referendum that includes an option of independence". (SPS)
