Madrid, 08/03/2007 (SPS) Polisario Front’s delegate, Mr.
Brahim Ghali, called on the Spanish political parties and civil
society to "firmly oppose" the "attempts aiming to confiscate the
Saharawi people’s right to freely decide of its destiny", reported
the Algerian Press Service, APS.
Mr. Ghali qualified the statements by the president of the Spanish
government, José Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, on the conflict of the
Western Sahara on Tuesday in Rabat, as "dangerous" and "deceiving,
for the Saharawi people as well as for the Spanish people which is
sensitive to the Saharawi cause and support it".
The Saharawi diplomat underlined that the Moroccan "autonomy plan"
for the Western Sahara "can in no way serve as a basis" to a
solution to the conflict, because it represents, he asserted, "a
colonial proposition that tries to distort the nature of the
conflict". "Morocco aims to confiscate the Saharawi people’s right
to freedom and independence", he underlined.
"The only solid basis for a settlement to the conflict of the
Western Sahara, a territory which is a subject to an unfinished
decolonisation process, is the basis that recognises the Saharawi
people’s right to self-determination and independence", the
Polisario Front representative in Spain affirmed.
Mr. Ghali called on the Spanish government "to firmly support the
international legality" that stipulates "the imprescriptible right
of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence". (SPS)
