OCCUPIED TERRITORIES/TRIALS

One to three years imprisonment for 5 Saharawi political prisoners and human rights activists 

 

El Aaiun (occupied territories), 07/03/2007 (SPS) The Moroccan court of appeal sentenced Mr. Brahim Sabar and Ahmed Sbai to one year imprisonment on Tuesday in El Aaiun, while Mr. Hmeidatt Ahmed Salem, Gasmi Lehbib and Toubili El Hafed were sentenced to three years imprisonment, a source from the Saharawi Ministry of Occupied territories and communities.

 

This trial, it should be recalled was postponed last February the 20 for the mentioned five political prisoners, while a sixth case of Loumadi Abdeslam was postponed to March the 20th like those of 8 Saharawi political prisoners who were brought before the Moroccan colonial court of El Aaiun, the same source added.

 

The last mentioned cases are those of: Tarrouzi Yahdih, Banga Chej, Bachir Ben Alal, Gali Zugam, Mohamed Salem Bahaha, Omar Ben Elyazid, Hayay Mohamed Maulud, Didi Abdeslam, who chanted slogans claiming for the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation from the Western Sahara, before the court decide the postponement of the trial, the same source indicated. 

 

Mr. Brahim Sabbar and Ahmed Sbai, respectively Secretary General of the Saharawi Association of he Victims of the Flagrant Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State (ASVGDHCEM) and member of the Executive Bureau of the same association were arrested last June 2006 in company of Heddi Mohamed Mahmoud El Kainan and his brother Heddi Saleh upon their entry to the occupied city of El Aaiun coming from Boujador, it should be recalled.
