El Aaiun (occupied territories), 06/03/2007 (SPS) The
Saharawi political prisoners in the Carcel Negra (Black Jail) of El
Aaiun decided on Sunday to suspend the hunger strike they started
last January the 30th to protest against the savage
intervention of the Moroccan forces of occupation they were victim
to in January the 19th.
"We took this decision in response to the pleas of different
organisations and personalities, which we received so as to save our
lives in danger, because of the refusal of the penitentiary
authorities to answer our legitimate claims", the political
prisoners wrote of which SPS received a copy.
"We also suspended our hunger strike so as the same authorities
respect its engagements aiming to gave us back our confiscated goods
during this intervention", the Saharawi political prisoners added,
calling to "the opening of a just and transparent investigation
about this intervention and to the judgment of the persons
accountable for it".
On another hand, the Saharawi political prisoners in the Carcel
Negra affirmed their attachment to the only legitimate
representatives of the Saharawi people, Polisario Front, and to the
Saharawi people’s inalienable right to self-determination and
independence.
They finally hailed the national and international organisations,
especially human rights associations for having supported them
during their hunger strike, the press release concluded.
