Algiers, 26/02/2007 (SPS) the President of the Algerian
Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, addressed on Monday "to the
courageous Saharawi people the warmest congratulations on the
occasion of the 31st anniversary of the Saharawi Republic,
underlining in a message he sent to his Saharawi counterpart,
President Mohamed Abdelaziz, that the struggle of the Saharawi
people "can only be resolved through self-determination".
"The struggle with so much abnegation and endurance by the Saharawi
people can only be resolved through self-determination, the cardinal
principle of the N-s Charter consecrated by all the UN-s
resolutions", President Bouteflika stressed in his message to the
President of the Saharawi Republic.
"These 30 years of struggle enabled the Saharawi Arab Democratic
Republic to gain in maturity and to affirm its position within the
international communities as it is proved by the diplomatic
relations it has with a great number of the countries and the
prestige it is enjoying internationally speaking because of the
justice of its struggle for rights that the international legality
sanctified", President Bouteflika notes.
The Head of the Algerian State affirms that "the right of the
Saharawi people to self-determination was recognised by the UN since
1966".
"This recognition, he added, naturally gives legitimacy to the
claims of the Saharawi people to plainly beneficiate from the
application of the resolution 1514 (1960) of the UN-s General
Assembly that remains a capital pillar in the liberation of the
colonised peoples".
"There is no other just and viable alternative to the decolonisation
of the Western Sahara conforming to the international legality",
President Bouteflika reaffirmed.
"Algeria, President Bouteflika continues, remains attached to this
demand for justice and will continue paying efforts for the
satisfaction of the unavoidable right of the Saharawi people to
govern themselves".
