Chahid El Hafed, 25/02/2007 (SPS) The 7th edition of the
Sahara Marathon will be organised on Monday with the participation
of more than 280 athletes from different nationalities who will run
the distances of 42 km between the wilaya El Aaiun and Smara, the
organisers declared.
Among the participants in this edition, the organisers announced the
presence of the famous German athlete, Dr. Holger Finkernagel,
winner of the 2005 ultra
Marathon, in Death Valley in California, the Italian, Hugh Jones,
Secretary General of the International Association of Marathon
(AIMS), winner of the 2004 edition of the Sahara Marathon, as well
as the Saharawi athlete, Salah Hmatou.
This sportive event of solidarity with the Saharawi people was first
organised in February 2001 with the support of many American,
Italian and German personalities in collaboration with the Saharawi
Ministry of Culture and sports. (SPS)
