Marrakech (Morocco), 24/02/2007 (SPS) The Saharawi students
in Marrakech organised a sit-in inside the university campus on
Thursday, to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the proclamation of
the Saharawi Republic, indicated a source from the Ministry of
Occupied Territories and Communities.
The demonstrators lifted the Saharawi flags and chanted slogans
advocating the immediate withdrawal of the Moroccan occupation and
call to enable the Saharawi people to freely exercise their right to
self-determination and independence.
The Saharawi students also called for the unconditional release of
the Saharawi political prisoners in hunger strike since January the
30th and whose situation really deteriorated, the same source added.
They further launched an appeal to international organisations to
"intervene in emergency for the protection of the human rights in
the occupied territories of the Western Sahara" and the preservation
of the Saharawi people’s natural resources illegally plundered by
the Moroccan colonialism".
The Saharawi students finally expressed their unconditional support
to the intifada of independence waged by the Saharawi people in the
occupied territories of the Western Sahara against the Moroccan
presence, and to ask for their people’s right to self-determination.
