El Aaiun (occupied territories),
21/02/2007 (SPS) Eight Saharawi citizens at least were arrested on
Monday in the occupied city of El Aaiun by the Moroccan forces of
repression or having "participated to peaceful demonstrations
advocating the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and to
independence", reported a source from the Saharawi Ministry of
Occupied Territories and Communities.
The Moroccan forces of repression arrested and savagely tortured the
following Saharawi citizens: Soueyih Abdallah, Alouan Dahi, Chtouki
Amara, Hami Derwich and four Saharawi students in the secondary
school ‘Allal Ben Abdallah’ of El Aaiun, mainly Saidi Salek, Sbai
Rafia, Yara Moueimina and Nguiya Taquiya, the same source stressed.
In the face of these "illegal acts", the families of the arrestees
gathered in front of the station of the Criminal police in the 24
Street, where the victims were detained. The families asked for the
release of their sons and re on their turn oppressed by the Moroccan
forces under the commend of the torturers, Moustapha Kemour, Ichi
Aboulhassan and Aziz Touhima.
The forces of oppression wounded thus two more Saharawi citizens,
Knan Al Moussaoui and Aicha Al Bellaoui, it was indicated.
On another hand, the Saharawi human rights activist, Sid Ahmed
Lemjeyid, President of the Committee of support of the UN Plan and
for the protection of the Natural Resources of the Western Sahara (CSPRON)
was arrested on Tuesday afternoon while he visited the ex-political
prisoner, Sidi Mohamed Deddech, who has just come from Norway where
he was invited by the RAFTO Foundation.
Mr. Sid Ahmed Lemjeyid was released by the colonial authorities
after having been submitted too interrogation for nearly an hour,
the same source added.
Meantime, in the occupied city of Smara 16 Saharawi citizens were
wounded during demonstrations that were organised on Monday evening
on the occasion of the celebration by the Saharawi people of the
31st anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Republic. !$
others were "arrested and still not identified because of the siege
imposed on the streets aimed to impede any future demonstrations",
