21/02/2007 (SPS) The South African Minister for Foreign Affairs,
Ncosozana Dlamini Zuma, renewed "the support of the South African
Government and people to the Saharawi people’s struggle and
inalienable right to self-determination", reported a press release
published by the Saharawi Embassy in Pretoria.
"Mrs. Zuma, who was receiving Mr. Mhamed Khadad, member of the
National Secretariat, in the seat of her ministry in Pretoria,
indicated that her government will work during its two years mandate
within the UN Security Council "to urge for the decolonisation of
the last colony in Africa (Western Sahara), the same text added.
Mr. Khadad informed his interlocutor on the last developments of the
referendum process in the Western Sahara, especially the "current
deadlock caused by the Moroccan intransigence and refusal to
implement the Peace Plan for the Self-determination of the people of
the Western Sahara", it was indicated.
He also underlined that his government remains attached "to the
peaceful solution of the conflict within the framework of the
international legality and the Saharawi people’s right to
self-.determination", as well as its readiness to cooperate with the
international community in this respect", the same text stressed.
The meeting between the two parties was attended by the Saharawi
Ambassador t South Africa, Mr. Ubbi Becharaya, and the Director of
the South African Foreign Ministry’s Department of North Africa,
Ibrahim Salé, the press release concluded. (SPS)
