Paris, 12/02/2007 (SPS) The French Association of the friends
of the Saharawi Republic expressed deep astonishment on Sunday about
the recent statements of President Chirac, who declared his
engagement as a “good friend" of Morocco in “a clear support to the
Moroccan plan of autonomy for the Western Sahara considering it as a
constructive solution to the conflict" between Polisario Front and
Morocco.
In a press release reported by the Algerian Press Service, APS, the
Association underlines that "France, the permanent member of the UN
Security Council should respect what the international community is
saying for more than 40 years, mainly the Saharawis’ right to decide
over their destiny through a self-determination referendum
conforming to the right to decolonisation ".
It underlines anew "the central position of France in the resolution
of the conflict, which 31 years old, and draw the attention of the
candidates to the French presidential elections so as their
perspectives to the definition to our country’s (France) relations
with the Great Maghreb give to the Western Sahara its place and to
the implementation of the UN’s resolutions on the Saharawi people’s
right to self-determination". (SPS)
