SADR/NETHERLANDS/EXPOSITION

Spanish Parliamentarian intergroups call on their central Government to "interrupt the deal of weapons" to Morocco

The Hague, 11/02/2007 (SPS) A photos exposition under the theme "the Saharawis" is organised from February the 9th to the 23rd of March in The Hague (Netherlands), following the initiative of the Netherlandss Foundation for the Self-determination of the Saharawi People and the Institute of Social Studies, a Saharawi diplomatic source declared on Saturday.

During the opening ceremony of this exposition, Mr. Ali Salem Tamek, the Saharawi human rights activist denounced the "flagrant human rights violations committed  the Moroccan authorities against the Saharawi people in the occupied territories", the same source indicated.

Talking about his numerous experiences of detention by the Moroccan authorities because of his mempership to the POLISARIO Front, Mr. Tamek called on the international community and human rights organisations to intervene so as to "put an end to these abuses".

He further said that this exposition takes place at a moment when the Saharawi political prisoners have started a hunger strike to protest against the deterioration of their situation.

On another hand, the audience asked, according to the same source on the degree of awareness of the Netherlander people about the question of the Western Sahara, the position of the Arab League, the number of the countries that recognise the Saharawi Republic, the position of the USA and Russia as permanent members of the UN Security Council in addition to the French support to the Moroccan expansionist position.
