The Hague, 11/02/2007 (SPS) A photos exposition under the
theme "the Saharawis" is organised from February the 9th to the 23rd
of March
in The Hague (Netherlands), following the initiative of the
Netherlandss
Foundation for the Self-determination of the Saharawi People and the
Institute of Social Studies, a Saharawi diplomatic source declared
on Saturday.
During the opening ceremony of this exposition, Mr. Ali Salem Tamek,
the Saharawi human rights activist denounced the "flagrant human
rights violations committed the Moroccan authorities against the
Saharawi people in the occupied territories", the same source
indicated.
Talking about his numerous experiences of detention by the Moroccan
authorities because of his
mempership
to the POLISARIO Front, Mr. Tamek called on the international
community and human rights organisations to intervene so as to "put
an end to these abuses".
He further said that this exposition takes place at a moment when
the Saharawi political prisoners have started a hunger strike to
protest against the deterioration of their situation.
On another hand, the audience asked, according to the same source on
the degree of awareness of the Netherlander people about the
question of the Western Sahara, the position of the Arab League, the
number of the countries that recognise the Saharawi Republic, the
position of the USA and Russia as permanent members of the UN
Security Council in addition to the French support to the Moroccan
