Madrid,
10/02/2007 (SPS) The European Parliamentarian of the Unified Left
(Spanish Isquierda Unida, 3rd political power in Spain), Willy
Meyer, denounced on Thursday in Brussels the conclusion of "a
military contract" between the Spanish Socialist Government and
Morocco with a view to "rearm the Moroccan forces knowing that the
occupation of the Western Sahara territories is among its missions".
"Through this contract, the government of Mr. Zapatero contributes
in rearming the Moroccan forces knowing that among its missions
there is the occupation of the territories of the Western Sahara is
one of, the surveillance of the wall (dividing the Saharawi
territory in 2 parties) and the persecution of the Saharawis who
defend their legitimate right to self-determination", Mr. Meyer said
in a press release published by his Party in Madrid.
"Mr. Zapatero denounced to the exercise of its obligation of
administrating the decolonisation process under the auspices of the
UN Security Council, and submitted to the interests of Morocco who
systematically rejects the UN resolutions", affirmed the
Coordinators of the international policy within the Isquierda Unida.
According to the party "200 millions euros", nearly "half" the total
Spanish exportations in military equipments in 2005, is the sum of
the sale of "1.200 armoured vehicles and 800 military trucks".
"This macro contract in addition to the recent abstention of Spain
in the UN Decolonisation Commission make of the Head of the Spanish
Government an accomplice to the Moroccan policy that represses and
deprive the Saharawi people from exercising their internationally
recognised right to self-determination", the press release further
stressed.
Further, the Spanish party consider that "it is paradoxical that the
Spanish government rearms at a
never
preceded level Morocco, which has got territorial disputes with
Spain". (SPS)
