El Aaiun (occupied territories),
30/01/2007 (SPS) Saharawi political prisoners incarcerated in the
Carcel Negra (Black Jail in El Aaiun) start an unlimited hunger
strike Today to protest against the "inhumane treatment and hard
conditions of detention" they are subjected to, indicated a press
release issued by the prisoners.
They also denounce "the aggression led by the guardians of the
Carcel Negra in the early morning of 19 January 2007 against the
Saharawi political prisoners who were handcuffed and evacuated from
their cells and their stuff confiscated", the same text stressed.
The Saharawi political prisoners also asked for the end of the
"flagrant human rights violations perpetrated against them by the
Moroccan government and to protect them conforming to the human
rights universal conventions and accords and enabling them to enjoy
their rights, to the visit of their families, medical care and to be
gathered apart from the imprisoned criminals".
They also asked for the dispatch of a commission so as to start a
"just and transparent investigation" on this savage aggression that
provoked serious wounds in the different parts of the prisoners
corpses after the intervention of the Moroccan specialised
torturers, the PARA groups, the text added.
The Saharawi political prisoners finally launched an appeal to the
international community and the human rights organisations to
"exercise pressures on Morocco for the immediate and unconditional
release of the Saharawi political prisoners and to put an end to the
sufferings of the Saharawi people so as they can enjoy their
inalienable right to self-determination and independence", the text
concluded.
On another hand, the Saharawi citizens in Taghjijit and Goulimine
respectively situated in the south of Morocco started a hunger
strike on Monday in response to the appeal launched on Monday by the
Saharawi political prisoners and expressed their solidarity with the
political prisoners as well as the attachment to the legitimate
rights of the people of the Western Sahara.
