27/01/2007 (SPS) The African Union (AU) reiterated its support to
the people of the Western Sahara’s right self-determination, during
the works of the 10th session of the AU’s Executive Council, which
studied examining the report of the President of the African
Commission, Alpha Oumar Konaré.
In this respect, the Council noted the last developments of the
Western Sahara’s question to underline the support of the
international community through the resolution 1495 (2005) of the
UN’s Security Council to the Saharawi people’s right of to
self-determination.
The report of the President of the AU Commission reaffirmed the UN’s
responsibility towards the Saharawi people and underlined that the
solution to the conflict of the Western Sahara consists in the
exercise by the Saharawi people of their right to
self-determination.
The Saharawi Republic is participating to the works of the AU’s
Executive Council with a delegation chaired by the Saharawi Minister
for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek. (SPS)
