SADR/KENYA/WORLD SOCIAL FORUM

Closure of the 7th World Social Forum with the sounds of freedom for Africa and its peoples

Nairobi, 25/01/2007 (SPS) The 7th World Social Forum closed its works, on Thursday, with the warm sounds of the African music in the Freedom Park (Uhuru Park), where thousands militants, activists and citizens gathered to sing the freedom for Africa and its peoples.

The closure ceremony, which started Thursday early in the morning with a march of some participating delegations and activists of the Kenyan civil society, was marked by the participation of the Saharawi musical group, "Estrella Polisaria", which was included in the programme despite Moroccans’ vain attempts to put obstacles.

The Saharawi music has thus embraced other African music, and the slogans advocating "Freedom for the last colony in Africa", were chanted and repeated many times by the audience and by the young monitors of the musical show, who asked for the decolonisation of the Western Sahara and the abolition of colonialism and repression against the peoples.

The 7th World Social Forum was again at the rendezvous. Many aspirations and desires revealed to be far from reach, especially a common work of the actors of civil society to search alternatives to the resolve the serious problems of poverty, wars, AIDS in Africa, violence against individuals and groups, colonisation and the domination of the big powers.

On its side, the Saharawi delegation has fully represented the struggle of the Saharawi people against the Moroccan colonialism in the Western Sahara and against the crimes committed by the "fascist and mean regime of Morocco, which has again failed to hinder our programmes and activities in spite of the big sums of money they invested on their group of secret services agents and renegades from Saharawi origins", stressed Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Laabeid, Member of the Association of the Families of Saharawi Disappeareds and Prisoners in charge for Foreign Relations (SPS)
