Saharawi march demanding the abolition of the Moroccan colonialism and the independence of the Western Sahara    

(Special Envoy)

  

Nairobi, 22/01/2007 (SPS) The members of the Saharawi civil society accompanied by activists, from many nationalities, supportive of the Saharawi cause marched for an hour in the "Moi International S.C Casaran" stadium in Nairobi, where the activities of the 7th WSF, demanding the abolition of the Moroccan colonialism and the independence of the Western Sahara, the lat colony in Africa.

 

Directly after having organised a workshop on the Moroccan human rights violations in the Western Sahara, on Monday morning, the participants to the workshop decided to march for an hour to clearly express their rejection of the Moroccan presence in the Western Sahara and their determination to defend their fundamental right to self-determination and independence.

 

"Liberate the Western Sahara", "Down with the colonialism, down with imperialism down with the Moroccan occupation of the Western Sahara", "Despite the repression we are an immortal people", were some of the slogans chanted by the participants in the march.

 

The present medias immediately seized the event and started interviews with the members of the Saharawi delegation and the a group of activists supporting the Saharawi cause.

 

The representatives of the Saharawi civil society cornered the Moroccan State on the systematic human rights violations in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara, on Monday morning, in a workshop organised by the Saharawi delegation participating to the 7th World Social Forum in Nairobi, Kenya.

 

The workshop, which was organised under the title "SOS, human rights violations in the occupied Western Sahara", exposed to about one hundred activists from many nationalities, the history of the Moroccan systematic violations of the fundamental, political, social, economical rights of the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara.
