Berlin (Germany), 16/01/2007 (SPS) The Saharawi human rights
activist and ex-political prisoner, Ali Salem Tamek, arrived on
Monday to Berlin within the framework of a turn to raise awareness
of the international public opinion about the flagrant human rights
violations perpetrated by the Moroccan State against the Saharawi
citizens in the occupied territories of the Western Sahara,
indicated a source from the Saharawi Representation in Germany.
Mr. Ali Salem arrived Monday to Berlin following an invitation from
the German organisation (Geselschaft fuer bedrohte Volker) for a
week visit in the Federal Republic of Germany, the same source
indicated.
The Saharawi human rights activist will have meetings with German
political parties during his visit, in addition o the different
Parliamentarian groups with the Bundestag (National Parliament.
He will also be received by the Commissioners of External Relations,
Cooperation and Human rights. He will also be received at the seat
of the German Ministry for Foreign Affairs where he will meet with
different NGOs and representatives of the German civil society.
On the occasion of the planed visit of Ali Salem Tamek, it was
indicated, the German organisation (Geselschaft fuer bedrohte
Volker) published a detailed report about the flagrant human rights
violations perpetrated by the Moroccan State in the occupied
territories of the Western Sahara during 2006.
It called on Morocco to "immediately and unconditionally release the
Saharawi political prisoners and to put an end to the crime it
commits against the citizens that express their rejection to the
Moroccan occupation of their territory", the same source added.
The German organisation also asked for the enlarging of the
prerogatives of the Minurso to include the protection of the
Saharawi citizens and to guarantee their legitimate rights to
peacefully demonstrate and to the freedom of expression.
31 years old, married and father of a girl, Mr. Tamek, A leading
Saharawi human rights activist in the Western Sahara lives in the
occupied Saharawi capital, El Aaiun, from where he defends the
cause.
His activities cost him many imprisonments in Moroccan prisons,
deportations outside the Saharawi territory, many hunger strikes he
undertook in jail, tortures, blackmailing and intimidations, it
should be recalled.
