Condemnation of Asfari to two months suspended imprisonment and 500 dirham fee

Smara (occupied territories), 15/01/2007 (SPS) The colonial court of first instance in the occupied city of Smara condemned on Monday the Saharawi human rights activist, and Co-President of the CORELSO, Mr. Asfari Ennaama, to two months suspended imprisonment and 500 Moroccan dirham fee, the Saharawi Association of the Victims of the Flagrant Human Rights Violations Committed by the Moroccan State (ASVDH) reported in a press release.

The Saharawi human rights defender, who lives in France, was arrested on January the 5th and detained in the local prison in the occupied city of Smara before he was released on Friday, the Saharawi Association indicated.

The Sahara NGO also recalled that Mr. Asfari "was charged of the same accusation usually used against many other Saharawi activists", including the General Secretary of the ASVDH, Brahim Sabbar and the member of the Council of Coordination, Ahmed Sbai, who will be brought before the Moroccan colonial Court of appeal this Tuesday.
