Chahid El Hafed,
23/12/2006 (SPS) "The Moroccan Palace Spokesperson does not have the
courage to say that this conflict (the Western Sahara’s) is caused
by the Moroccan military invasion to the Western Sahara in 1975",
declared the Saharawi Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem
Ould Salek, in response to the Moroccan Palace Spokesperson, Nabil
Benadallah, who has recently said that the construction of the
Maghreb Arab Union is hindered by the conflict of the Western Sahara
without any precision to the nature of the obstacles he meant.
To Mr. Ould Salek, "the invasion of the Western Sahara, the illegal
occupation of a part of this territory, the plundering of the
natural resources, the blind and criminal repression against the
Saharawi people and the Moroccan refusal to organise the
self-determination referendum, which is officially and formally
accepted and signed by the Government of Hassan II, are the real
causes behind the conflict and remain the obstacle in front of peace
and stability in our region".
He further estimated that, the "utilization" of the Western Sahara
question to divert the attention of the Moroccan people and army
from the question of democracy, the sovereignty of the people, the
richness, justice and the respect of the human beings "is a policy
that has no future".
The Minister for Foreign Affairs warned that the only way towards
peace and the construction of a united and prosperous Maghreb
"obligatorily passes by the fulfilment of the Saharawi people’s
inalienable right to self-determination and independence through a
free, regular and democratic referendum, without any military or
administrative constraints".
"Any other demarche is no more than a manoeuvre and a waste of time
and means", he declared.
The Head of the Saharawi diplomacy finally warned that his people
"will struggle with all means until the total exercise of their
legitimate and inalienable rights and will succeed in failing all
delaying manœuvre that aims to confiscate their rights to live free
and independent in their country".
