19/12/2006 (SPS) The President of the Algerian National Committee of
solidarity with the Saharawi people, Mahrez Lamari, indicated on
Sunday in Algiers that the representatives of the anti-colonial
civil societies around the world have recently agreed to make of
2007 an international year of solidarity with the Saharawi people.
Mr. Mahrez, who was the guest of the Algerian Radio Channel III
programme, "In total frankness", underlined that NGOs from all
continents, who militate for the decolonisation of the Western
Sahara wants from this decision to raise awareness of the
international community about the Saharawi conflict, which solution
passes through the implementation of the different UN’s resolutions.
Talking about the last UN General Assembly’s resolution, he
expresses his satisfaction that "no country opposed it", stressing
that the ball is now in the field of the UN Security Council, which
"must put pressures on Morocco so as the plan for the settlement of
the conflict be implemented enabling the Saharawi people to govern
themselves through a self-determination referendum". (SPS)
