Polisario "studies with concern" the content of the Moroccan Party’s Annahj Addimoucrati’s open letter (Minister)

Chahid El Hafed, 17/12/2006 (SPS) Polisario Front indicated that it is "studying with concern" the call addressed by the only real Moroccan opposition party (Annahj Addimoucrati- the Democratic Path) to the Moroccan Government and Polisario Front, in which it calls on the two parties to the conflict to sit on the table of negotiation so as to organise the self-determination referendum in the Western Sahara.

"Polisario Front hails Annahj Addimoucrati for its position on the conflict of the Western Sahara, in which it called for the respect of the principle of self-determination conforming to the UN’s Charter", indicated Mr. Khalil Sidi Mhamed, Minister of Occupied Territories and Communities, in a statement to the Moroccan newspaper "Al Massa".

The Saharawi Minister, who sees in this initiative "a good intention and a noble goal", affirmed that the solution of the conflict of the Western Sahara on the basis of the UN Settlement Plan of 1991, completed by the Houston Accords of 1997, and the Peace Plan for the Self-determination of the People of the Western Sahara (Baker Plan) of 2003, cane enable "the finishing of the decolonisation in the African continent, to stop the bloodshed between the two brother and neighbour peoples and to clear the Maghreb Arab of the situation of tension and instability that prevails the for more than 30 years".

In a press release, issued last December the 2nd, the Moroccan party of opposition regretted that the hopes raised during the first days of the reign of Mohamed VI "have just evaporated" and that this conflict "has always been used as a mean to abort the struggle of the Moroccan people for democracy and social justice", and aims only to "bring the popular struggle under control".

To Annahj Addimocrati, the conflict benefits only those who have their interests in "keeping the dictatorship, who exploit and avidly plunder the resources of the country" and who, "start crying about the seriousness of the situation in the Sahara whenever the social struggle and movement for democratic change get stronger, and this so as to impose a “consensus”, which does actually not exist".

In a letter addressed to the Royal Palace last July 2005, the only real Moroccan opposition party has noted that the "conflict of the Western Sahara had had negative repercussions on the evolution of democracy in Morocco and the absence of democracy can not help in finding a solution to the question in the Sahara".

The Annahj Addimocrati (in Arabic) was constituted in 1995 as a legal political party. It is the political and ideological continuity of the Moroccan Marxist-Leninist Movement, especially the organisation of « Ilal Amam », which was militating clandestinely since 30 August 1970. See the party’s page. (SPS)
