16/12/2006 (SPS) The Italian region of Pouilles expressed its
solidarity with the Saharawi people and its support to its right to
self-determination and expressed its commitment to translate this
solidarity to concrete initiatives, declared the region’s
representative, Mrs. Silvia Godelli.
"We would like to express the deep desire of Pouilles to activate
and help the Saharawi people in its just peaceful struggle for its
independence’’, affirmed the Italian local official during a meeting
with the Polisario Font in Italy, Omar Minh.
The Italian local official, who represents the President of the
region, Mr. Nichi Vendola, underlined that an initiative of the
region will be undertaken in direction of the Italian Ministry for
Foreign Affairs "to expose and plead in emergency" the legitimate
claims of the Saharawi people so as to impose the respect of the
international legality and UN’s resolutions.
On his part, Mr. Minh recalled the peaceful struggle of the Saharawi
people, waged for the last thirteen years so as to impose the
recognition of their legitimate right to self-determination and
