Rabat (Morocco), 13/12/2006 (SPS) Saharawi students in Rabat
expressed their solidarity with the Saharawi civilians in the
occupied cities of Smara and El Aaiun, savagely repressed by the
Moroccan forces, which has violently dispersed peaceful
demonstrations in both aforementioned cities commemorating the 58th
anniversary of the International Day of Human Rights (10 December).
"We express our firm attachment to our people’s right to
self-determination through a free and just self-determination
referendum under the auspices of the United Nations", the Saharawi
students in Rabat wrote in a press release of which SPS received a
copy.
They also denounced the flagrant human rights violations against the
Saharawi population in the occupied territories of the Western
Sahara, affirming that Polisario Front is the only and legitimate
representative of the Saharawi people, the same text wrote.
The students launched an urgent appeal to the international human
rights organisations to "exercise pressures on the Moroccan
Government to put an end to the human rights violations in the
occupied territories of the Western Sahara".
On another hand, the Collective of the Saharawi Human Rights
Defenders expressed its "unconditional" solidarity and support to
the victims of the Moroccan violation, calling on the UN to dispatch
a committee to investigate on the flagrant human rights abuses
committed by the Moroccan authorities in these two cities this week.
