Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), The elections for the renewal of the Saharawi parliament started today morning in all the refugee camps and in the liberated territories of Western Sahara.
More than 126 candidates are competing for the 53seat of the Parliament, where the women will have an important representation, taking into account the fixed quota they already have in the four wilayas, and the possible seats they can get above it.
The renewal of the parliament, which comes according to the constitution after the Congress of POLISARIO Front, will continue in the Wilayas until Tuesday when the results and the list of the new Parliament will be published.
Elected for a period of three years, the Saharawi Parliament will be in charge of the "legislations and control of the liberation movement (POLISARIO) and the Saharawi State, having the necessary competence to fully exercise this role, according to the new constitution adopted by POLISARIO Front’s 12th congress.
