Shahid al Hafed, Aug 3,2009 (SPS) -The first round of informal meetings between the Polisario front and Morocco will take place next Monday in Vienna under the auspices of the Personal Envoy of the SG of the UN to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, said Saharawi official source.
These meetings will be held in the presence of some members of the delegations of both parties to the conflict, the Polisario Front and Morocco in addition to Algeria and Mauritania as observers, add the same source.
These meetings will continue for two days in closed door-sessions , at the request of the Personal Envoy of the SG of the UN to Western Sahara, Mr. Christopher Ross,with a view to enhancing direct negotiations between the two parties and reaching a just and lasting solution that would guarantee the Sahrawi people's right to self-determination.
Several rounds of talks between the two parties were held under the auspices of the United Nations in 2007 and 2008 in New York but have not reached agreement.
In its latest report on Western Sahara, the UN Secretary General, Mr. Ban Ki-Moon welcomed the commitment of both parties to continue negotiations, but had accepted the advice of his personal envoy that informal meetings be held.
The Security Council welcomed the acceptation of both parties to have informal talks to prepare for the fifth round of negotiations. (SPS)
