Tifariti (liberated territories), 20/12/2007 (SPS) Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz was re-elected to the post of Secretary General of POLISARIO Front, on Thursday by 85% of 1.403 valid votes, according to the results announced in the plenary session.
The Secretary General was the only candidate to the post, since no participant has proposed to run the election against him though they have the right to.
In his intervention last Monday, Mr. Abdelaziz asked the participants to vote for the principle of alternation on the Head of the liberation movement by adopting adequate amendments to POLISARIO Front’s constitution. He proposes that the Secretary General of the movement have only one mandate that can not be renewed.
The proposition was rejected by the participants to the congress, who underlined that POLISARIO Front is a liberation movement whose priority is to liberate the territory from the Moroccan coloniser, and that the movement should always have the right to elect the persons it trust competent to achieve the mission they would be given.
The congress must also elect 25 members forposts in the National Secretariat this evening. (SPS)
