SADR / MOROCCO / NEGOTIATIONS

Moroccan plan of autonomy for Western Sahara does not ensure negotiations success (Sahrawi Minister)

Bir Lehlu (Sahrawi Liberated Territories), 15/03/2009 (SPS) The Moroccan Government's clinging in terms of "autonomy" for Western Sahara, does not contribute to the success of the 5th round of negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco , said Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamedsalem Ould Salek, in a statement issued Sunday.

Mr. Ould Salek, speaking in reaction to a statement by the Foreign Minister of Morocco, in which he stressed the commitment of Morocco to the autonomy plan as part of a solution to the conflict of decolonization of Western Sahara, said it does not create the conducive atmosphere to the success of the 5th round of negotiations between the Polisario Front and Morocco. "

In the same context, He added "the Moroccan approach hinders the construction of the Arab Maghreb, cohesion, peace and stability in the region." "It is clear that Morocco continues, unfortunately, in its traditional attitude of intransigence, by clinging to the impossible legitimization of its colonial claims in Western Sahara," he said.

In his statement, the Minister considered "the Moroccan plan for autonomy, presented by Rabat as the only solution to take it or leave it, is today an obstacle to a just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara."

He recalled, in this regard, that the solution to the conflict "can not be conceived outside of the full satisfaction of the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence".

“It is regrettable that in full 21st century, the Moroccan government vainly wastes so many means and energies, to perpetuate anachronistic colonialism phenomenon, outdated and doomed to extinction”, he said. (SPS)
