Shahid Al Hafed, 22/02/2009 (SPS) The President of the Republic and Secretary General of POLISARIO Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz reiterated Monday the willingness of the Polisario Front to fully cooperate "in a constructive way" with UN in its efforts for a solution to the Western Sahara conflict, in accordance with international law, following his meeting with the new Personal Envoy of SG of UN to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross.
"The Polisario Front, the only legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, reiterates its readiness to fully cooperate, in a constructive way, with the United Nations in its efforts for a solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, in accordance with international legality," he said.
"The Polisario Front is ready to resume negotiations without conditions with Morocco under the auspices of the United Nations, in accordance with all UN resolutions and its efforts and plans calling for the decolonization and the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination."
"We ask for strict application of international legitimacy of UN Charter and resolutions to impose justice, security, peace, stability and prosperity in the region," he added.
"On this occasion we renew our request to the United Nations to use its efforts for the immediate release of all Saharawi political prisoners who are in Moroccan prisons, and to shed light on the fate of more than 500 missing civilians and 151 Saharawi prisoners of war at the hands of the Kingdom of Morocco," Abdelaziz said.
He also requested the UN to take the necessary measures for the extension of the mandate of MINURSO for the protection and control of the situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, until it assumes its primary and urgent task, namely the holding of a free, fair and transparent process for self-determination of the Saharawi people.
The meeting between the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, and Christopher Ross took place in the presence of the member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front and Delegate Minister to the MFA for Africa, Mohamed Yeslem Beissat. (SPS)
