New Personal Envoy of SG of UN to Western Sahara arrives Saturday to Sahrawi refugee camps


Smara (refugee camps), 21/02/2009 (SPS) The new Personal Envoy of SG of UN to Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, arrived Saturday to wilaya of Smara in the Saharawi refugee camps in the framework of his tour of the region. 

Upon his arrival in the wilaya of Smara, Mr. Ross was received by the Prime Minister, Abdelkader Taleb Oumar, Coordinator with MINURSO, Mhamed Khadad, Interior Minister, Boullahi Sid, Governor of wali of Smara, Khatri Adouh , President of the Saharawi Red Crescent, Bouhoubeini Yahya and Director of protocol, Habiboulah Mohamed Kori, in addition to the Advisory Council of Western Sahara. 

Mr. Ross and the delegation accompanying him were welcomed by detachments of the Saharawi People's Liberation Army which made the honors and the population of Smara who came to salute him, before greeting the members of the Regional Council and discussing with the Advisory Council of Western Sahara.

The UN delegation visited the places of residence where it will meet in the evening the members of the Saharawi delegation conducting the negotiations with Morocco under the auspices of the United Nations to achieve a just and lasting solution to ensure the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination. 

The new envoy will be honored at a dinner by the President of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament), Mahfoudh Ali Beiba at 27 February camp, according to a source close to the protocol. 

Sunday, Ross will visit schools in the SADR before being received by the President of the Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, according to the same source. 

The new Personal Envoy of the SG of the UN to Western Sahara, the American diplomat, Christopher Ross arrived Wednesday to Rabat, in his first visit to the region to revive negotiations between the two parties to the conflict, Morocco and the Polisario Front, announced the spokesperson of Mr. Ban Ki-moon, Michele Montas in New York.
