Shahid Al Hafed, 03/02/2009 (SPS) UN Special Envoy to Western Sahara, Julian Harston described the visit by a delegation of European Parliament (EP) to the occupied territories of Western Sahara, as a “positive step "in a statement Monday to the Spanish newspaper ABC.
UN responsible indicated that EU delegation has held talks with all parties.
Regarding the new Personal Envoy of the SG of the UN to Western Sahara, Mr. Harston said Mr Christopher Ross has a great knowledge of the record, from his work in some Arab countries, adding "his progress depends on the parties to the negotiations. "
About the American Human rights Watch (WRW) call for the establishment of a mechanism for the protection of human rights in Western Sahara, the head of( MINURSO ) Mr. Harston stressed "the decision lies with the Security Council to take necessary measures and recommendations on the matter." (SPS)
