Laayoun (occupied territories of Western Sahara), 28/01/2009 (SPS) The Moroccan security forces prevented Tuesday tens of Sahrawi citizens, including defenders of human rights, access to the residence of the Ad Hoc delegation of the European Parliament, arrived to examine the situation of human rights in Western Sahara.
"Patrols of the security and intelligence agents dressed in civilian clothes violently repressed Saharawis who wanted to meet with the European Commission. The Moroccan forces have arrested these people quickly, to prevent any finding of People gathering at the residence of the mission, "according to judicial sources on the spot.
The occupying forces have arrested several people, including Ms. Lammat Zoghman, Alkarcar Minetou, Daoudi Fatimetou, Khadijetou Al Moussaoui, Mohamed Al Qasimi, disrupting a peaceful demonstration demanding the inalienable right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.
Another activist of human rights, Oulad Cheikh Al Mahjoub, was seriously injured by the Moroccan forces, as he was heading with his fellow citizens Ahmed Hamiya and Rashid Sghaier to the home of European Commission. They also prevented the Sahrawi human rights defenders Ahmed Al Moussaoui, Salek Bazeid, Ahmed Mjeyid and Ahmed Dih to meet the Ad Hoc delegation of the European Parliament.
The Moroccan occupation authorities had carried out since Monday deployment of monitoring points at the routes to and from the city of Laayoun, in particular to Tantan (southern Morocco) and the town of Smara (Western Sahara) where hundreds of people were prevented from entering the city of Laayoun.
The Moroccan security services have abducted young Sahrawis, including former political prisoner, Al Hafed Toubal who was interrogated under torture on the agenda of the European delegation to Western Sahara, the same sources added. (SPS)
