Shahid Al Hafed, 27/01/2009 (SPS) A delegation composed of the joint Ad Hoc and Maghreb Delegation, respectively chaired by Joannis Kassoulides, MEP and former Foreign Minister of Cyprus, and Carlos Uturgaiz, president of the Maghreb delegation of the European Parliament, will visit today Tuesday Laayoun (Western Sahara), illegally occupied by Morocco, as it was learned from the consultant Minister to the Presidency of the Republic, on charge of Europe, Mohamed Sidati.
The delegation will meet with several Sahrawi NGOs of human rights defenders, victims of repression and members of the families of the missing, the same source said.
It should be recalled that the Ad Hoc delegation was formed after the resolution of 27 October 2005 with the mission to investigate the situation of human rights in Western Sahara and report to the European Parliament.
"Since 2005, the Moroccan authorities, using manoeuvres and claiming false pretexts, have tried all means to prevent the visit of the Ad Hoc delegation to the occupied territories of Western Sahara where rampant terrifying and repression are perpetuated against the Sahrawi population," the Saharawi diplomat deplored.
