Stavanger (Norway), March 3, 2013 (SPS) - A large number of Saharawis, currently living in Norway, and friends of Western Sahara met Saturday in the city of Stavanger, the third largest city in Norway, to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the declaration of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and to elect new leadership of the Association of Saharawis living in Norway.
The event was organized by the Association of Saharawis living in Norway in collaboration with the local chapter of the Norwegian Labor Youth (AUF).
It was attended by the head of the Norwegian support committee for Western Sahara Mr. Erik Hagen, POLISARIO Representative to Norway Dr. Limam Khalil, president of the Norwegian Worker’s Union Youth League in the area of Stavanger, a representative from AUF and several people interested in the Saharawi cause.
It therefore attended by Saharawis coming from Sweden and Denmark.
Petitioners during the celebration focused on the current political situation in Western Sahara, what the past 37 years meant for the Saharawi struggle especially at this time and the ways forward for the cause, particularly in Norway.
During this gathering, members of the Association of Saharawis in Norway elected new president and the board, and discussed the aims of the association and the future plans to serve the Saharawi cause inside Norway. (SPS)
