Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), Nov 11, 2012 (SPS) - The POLISARIO denounces the expulsion of international observers and journalists from occupied Western Sahara by the Moroccan authorities, indicated the President of Republic and Secretary General of the POLISARIO Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, in a letter sent to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
The President has called on UN Secretary General to take immediate measures and procedures to end this illegal and unethical situation, through lifting the siege imposed over occupied Saharawi territories and allowing free access into the Territory for the international observers.
He urged to give the MINURSO mission all the necessary mechanisms to perform its function credibly and transparently, in conducting a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people as well as protect, monitor and report about human rights in the occupied Western Sahara.
The President also recalled that since its invasion of Western Sahara on 31 October 1975, Moroccan authorities have perpetuated a method of torturing eye-witnesses and committing heinous crimes far away from the media and international surveillance.
To indicate, Moroccan occupying authorities expelled Tuesday and Wednesday more than 20 European nationals, from Norway and Spain, from the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, three days after the visit of the UN Secretary General’s Personal Envoy Christopher Ross to the occupied city.
